Hey Conor,

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but..the central fisheries board says....

Eel fishing is closed until 2012. The prospect of re-opening the eel fishery will be considered at that time, following a review of the data collated as a result of scientific sampling provided for in the draft plan.

* Bye-law No C.S. 303, 2009 prohibits fishing for eel, or possessing or selling eel caught in a Fishery District in the State until June 2012.
* Bye-Law No 858, 2009 prohibits the issue of eel fishing licences by the regional fisheries boards in any Fishery District.

In addition, any unattended static fish trap without license is classified as illegal and you could theoretically be done for poaching.

Regards,

Denis

And why would you post illegal activity in both the Game and Course fishing sections?

Concur with the other posts, illegal activity. Did you go out and shoot a few eggs in the nest followed by some Badger baiting ??? Eel Trap LOL and to think some consider that "Angling"

I'm almost certain it's illegal to even target them. In fairness to the rule the eel stocks are decimated in Ireland, 10 years ago you'd fill a keepnet with them while course fishing on the Shannon or in Moycullen, I don't think I've even seen one in the past year.
